Ryder Richardson Receives Gochman Family Grant from USHJA

“Dreams do come true!" said Ryder Richardson after learning he was selected as one of three recipients of the Gochman Grant offered through the USHJA. "I can't believe I was chosen to attend USEF Pony Finals as a Gochman Grant recipient; it is the biggest honor of my life.”

The USHJA Foundation Gochman Family Grant offers each recipient the opportunity to compete at USEF Pony Finals when they may not have otherwise been able to do so. In addition to the competitive opportunities offered at the event, the three recipients will participate in various educational activities throughout the fun-filled week.

Richardson, 12, has been riding for more than four years. He currently trains with Karen Goodell and competes at CHJA and USEF rated competitions. Karen gushes when she speaks about Ryder and his love and commitment to horses and riding.

“Ryder is an amazing kid! Not only is he talented but he loves helping others whether it's hacking their horses or modeling a friend's pony,” she said.

Mom Kelle talks about how Ryder came to riding and showing.

"I rode horses at the Horse Park when I was a kid,” she noted. “He saw a picture of me showing a pony and that was pretty much it. Not long after that, we won a package of lessons at an area barn. He went one time and was hooked!"

Ryder has competed in eventing, Pony Club, hunting and even gymkhana. He loves all aspects of riding. He is a rising 6th grader who will attend Sagewood Middle School this fall and could not be more thrilled with the chance he’s been given to compete at Pony Finals.

“I have dreamed about riding in the Walnut Ring for years. I am so incredibly grateful to the USHJA Foundation, the Gochman Family, and all of the amazing people that have made this incredible opportunity available for me. This experience is going to change my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
