CHJA Board Adopts Rule Changes for 2016

by Carol O’Meara, Rules and Specs Chair

At their meeting on October 5, 2015, the CHJA Board adopted rule changes for 2016. These rule changes will go into effect on December 1, 2015.Highlights of these rule changes include:

  • Rule 3.3 which dictated Show Fees was deleted. Shows will determine their own fees and the fees must be published in the prize list.
  • CHJA Rules Representatives may serve as Stewards at Group II shows. Rules Representatives will be approved by the Officials Committee, who will determine a process for training and approval of CHJA Rule Representatives.
  • Hunter and Equitation Over Fence classes will be considered completed if three or more horses have competed. A horse has competed in an over fence class when the horse’s entry number and a score for at least the first jump are recorded on the judge’s card. A horse failing to complete the entire course is not eligible to receive points, awards, or prize money. A horse has competed in an under saddle or flat class when the horse has entered the ring. When three or fewer horses compete in an under saddle or flat  class, all horses’ numbers must be listed on the judge’s card regardless of whether they receive an award.  In Jumper Classes, a class is completed if three or more horses compete. A competitor is considered to have competed only after he has entered the ring and received a signal to start. Competitors who are unable to complete the first round of a competition have no right to any prize with the exception of classes with special rules with requirements as to the finish.
  • Policies for Warm Ups must be stated in the Prize List.
  • The CHJA Stirrup Medal will become three separate Medals—Short, Medium, and Long. The specifications for the medals will remain the same as the current Stirrup Medal, and they may be combined. Specifications for the Stirrup Medal Classes at Medal Finals will include an over fence class with USEF Test 1-9 built into the course, a flat class, and additional testing at the discretion of the judge. Double points toward the Stirrup Medal Year End Awards will be given to riders placing 1st through 6th in the medal finals class. Special Year End Award Trophies will be given for the Short, Medium, and Long Stirrup riders earning the highest number of points.
  • Puddle Jumpers will continue to be run under Table IV, but at least two of the classes must be run under separate sections of Table IV.
