CHJA Establishes Outreach Program

By Carol O’Meara, Rules and Specs Chair

Several years of work on the part of the CHJA Strategic Planning Committee became a reality with the adoption of a package of Bylaws and Rule Changes which will create the CHJA Outreach Program. Juniors and adults can join CHJA as an Outreach Member. Outreach Members will receive an email subscription to the CHJA Newsletter and will be eligible to compete in the Outreach Year End Program. The fee for Outreach Membership will be $35.00 per year for 2019.

Participants in the Outreach Year End Program will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Certificates at the end of the Show Year when they have earned 100, 75, and 50 points in a division. Points in Outreach Classes will be 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, ½ for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 place respectively. No bonus points will be given for Champion and Reserve, however shows can offer Show Champion and Reserve. Outreach divisions will include Outreach Walk/Trot, Outreach Pile of Poles, Outreach Cross Rails, Outreach 18” , Outreach 2’, Outreach 2’3”, Outreach 2’6” and a Outreach Jumper Division at 2’-2’3”. The 18” and 2’ Divisions will have no oxers. There will be no cross entry restrictions in the Outreach Divisions, but if an Outreach rider wants to earn points at Group I or Group II shows, they will need to upgrade to full membership.

Each Outreach Division will consist of a minimum of 1 Hunter O/F class, 1 Equitation O/F class, 1 Hunter U/S or Pleasure class and 1 equitation flat class. Jumper Divisions will consist of 3 classes to be run under at least two different USEF Jumper Tables.

Any CHJA Group II Show may apply for approval for Outreach Divisions. The fee for Outreach Approval is included in the $100.00 approval fee for Group II Shows. Freestanding Outreach Shows may also be approved for a $45.00 approval fee. There is currently no seniority system for Free Standing Outreach shows. Freestanding Outreach Shows must have an EMT, but are not required to have a Steward or Rules Representative. Show Managers interested in applying for approval can use the Show Application Form found in the Show Managers packet under Resources on the CHJA Website or contact Carol O’Meara at carolomeara@aol.com for information and an application.
