CHJA Approval of Judges and Course Designers

Information from the Officials Committee

January 15, 2020

Thank you for your patience as we develop this new program. We hope that the following information will help to address some of the questions and concerns that have arisen as we begin implementation for the 2020 show season.

General Information:

Effective December 1, 2019, all judges and course designers for Group II CHJA shows must be approved by the CHJA Officials Committee (CHJA Rules 4.3D and 4.4).

The CHJA Officials Committee has been charged with determining the criteria and process for approval of CHJA judges and course designers. Previously published criteria have been revised and the process for obtaining approval has been defined. Additional revisions are possible as the program rolls out. Should additional revisions be necessary, they will be published on the CHJA website, communicated by email and posted on CHJA’s Facebook.

USEF rated judges and course designers are automatically approved by the CHJA Officials Committee and do NOT need to go through the CHJA approval process.

Criteria:

Approval as a CHJA judge requires meeting at least three (3) of the following criteria:

  1. Experience as a judge or learner-judge at five (5) CHJA group II shows managed by three different managers in the past two years.
  2. Attendance at a judges clinic within the past three (3) years.
  3. Provision of three (3) references from individuals in the Colorado hunter/jumper industry.
  4. Active, good standing membership in CHJA.

All applicants for approval must score at least 80% on an open-book written test.

Approval as a CHJA course designer requires meeting three (3) of the following criteria:

  1. Experience as course designer for five (5) CHJA group II shows in the past three (3) years.
  2. Attendance at a course designer clinic within the past three (3) years.
  3. Provision of three (3) references from individuals in the Colorado hunter/jumper industry.
  4. Active, good standing membership in CHJA.

All applicants for approval must score at least 80% on an open-book written test.

Process for approval as a CHJA judge or course designer:

  1. Email your name, email address, phone number, physical address, and a statement addressing the criteria to Laurie Grayson, Officials Committee Chair, at justalittlefarm@gmail.com
  2. Applicants will receive the appropriate open book test which the applicant will print, answer, and scan/email back to Laurie Grayson at justalittlefarm@gmail.com.
  3. Applications will be reviewed by the Officials Committee and the Officials Committee will either approve, deny, or request additional information. Meeting of the criteria and passing the test do not guarantee approval. Final approval is at the discretion of the Officials Committee.
  4. Notification of the committee decision will be sent to the applicant by email. Applicants who are denied approval will be given an explanation as to why approval was denied.
