CHJA MEMBERSHIP SURVEY REVEALS USEFUL DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION

The Colorado Hunter Jumper Association recently surveyed its members to gain a better understanding of who they are and what their other interests might be. This information was assembled to help the association secure event sponsorships.

When we look at the demographic information this survey uncovered, it is clear that our members are loyal, affluent consumers who spend a good percentage of their disposable income on horses, horse shows and horse-related activities.

Among the findings were the fact that most members own or lease one to four horses and attend more than five shows annually. And that joke about how there frequently are more dogs at a show than there are horses? Turns out that might not be such a joke in that nearly 50% of those responding have dogs in addition to horses and another 30% have both dogs and cats.

Whether or not we are technologically savvy, we do like our portable devices. Nearly 95% of those responding to the survey regularly use a smartphone, 82% use a laptop and another 50% use a tablet. Good thing too. We also are a membership that likes to travel for pleasure. Nearly 75% of those responding to our survey travel a week or more every year so all that connectivity certainly comes in handy!

Another survey will be arriving in member inboxes soon. This one will dig a little deeper into how our members are getting their information and what they think about the programs CHJA offers.

There will be a roundtable discussion with Geoff starting at 4:30 p.m. accompanied by an early dinner. All riding slots have been filled but people are welcome to audit the riding clinics and participate in the Q & A sessions. More information is available on the CHJA website.

JUNIORS TO FUNDRAISE IN SUPPORT OF CHJF AND ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Attention Junior riders! Between June 15 and Oct. 31, 2016, Junior members of CHJA are encouraged to form teams and work together to creatively fundraise to benefit the Colorado Hunter Jumper Foundation and St. Jude Children's Hospital. While you probably know that the CHJF awards scholarships, supports equine charities, offers achievement opportunities and provides emergency support to individuals and families in the CHJA community, you may not know about the work of St. Jude. Formed in 1962 in Memphis, Tenn., by famed performer Danny Thomas, St. Jude is leading the way in treating childhood cancer and diseases.

Half of the money raised by our Juniors will remain with the CHJF and the other half will be donated to St. Jude. Awards will be given to the top fundraising team. A team application is available on the CHJA website. Contact Devon Hussey, Junior Committee liaison for additional details.
